This includes promoting voter rights and access, and ensuring that every citizen has the ability to participate in the democratic process. It also includes promoting transparency and accountability in government, and ensuring that the voice of the people is heard.

Protect Civil Liberties

Civil liberties are essential to protecting individual freedom. This includes protecting the rights of free speech, assembly, and religion, as well as the right to privacy and due process. It is important to ensure that these rights are protected and upheld, even in times of crisis.

Combat Inequality

Economic inequality is a major threat to freedom in America. It creates barriers to opportunity and undermines the ability of individuals to pursue their dreams and goals. Combating inequality means promoting policies that promote economic opportunity and social mobility, and ensuring that everyone has a fair shot at success.

Promote Social Justice

Social justice is an essential component of freedom. This includes promoting equal rights and opportunities for all individuals, regardless of race, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation. It also means working to address systemic issues of discrimination and prejudice, and promoting inclusion and diversity.

Invest in Education

Education is a key component of freedom. It provides individuals with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life, and promotes critical thinking and informed decision-making. Investing in education means providing resources and support for schools and teachers, as well as ensuring that every child has access to a quality education.

Address Climate Change

Climate change is a major threat to freedom in America and around the world. It poses a threat to our health, our environment, and our economy. Addressing climate change means promoting policies that reduce carbon emissions, invest in renewable energy, and promote sustainability.

Promote Public Health

Public health is essential to protecting individual freedom. It ensures that individuals have access to healthcare, and that they can live healthy and productive lives. Promoting public health means investing in healthcare infrastructure and resources, as well as addressing systemic issues that contribute to poor health outcomes.

Combat Corruption

Corruption is a major threat to freedom in America. It undermines the integrity of democratic institutions and erodes public trust in government. Combating corruption means promoting transparency and accountability in government, and ensuring that public officials are held to high ethical standards.

Embrace Innovation

Innovation is a key driver of freedom and progress. It enables individuals to pursue new ideas and opportunities, and drives economic growth and prosperity. Embracing innovation means promoting policies that support research and development, as well as ensuring that individuals have access to the tools and resources they need to innovate.

Foster Global Cooperation

Finally, fostering global cooperation is essential to reclaiming freedom in America. It means working with other nations to address global challenges, such as climate change, economic inequality, and human rights. It also means promoting diplomacy and dialogue, and building strong alliances with other nations.

Conclusion

Freedom is a fundamental value of American society, but it is not guaranteed. In order to reclaim freedom in America, we must work to strengthen democracy, protect civil liberties, combat inequality, promote social justice, invest in education and public health, combat corruption, embrace innovation, and foster global cooperation.

Liberty and Freedom are the ultimate form of Love. To tell another human being that you trust them so much you don’t want to interfere in their lives so long as they don’t hurt others, is an act of love. It is through Compassion, Education, and Love that we will Reclaim Freedom, and light the path of Liberty for All.

Our goal is to, within our lifetimes, transform the Democratic Party into an effective political force for upholding individual liberty throughout the United States and abroad, while preserving and strengthening the party’s and country’s dedication to equal rights and the common good.

The Democratic Freedom Caucus will fight to restore the right to privacy and bodily autonomy, to restore civility and sanity in our political discourse, and to restore faith in the very institutions that got us here. Guided by our steadfast belief in civil rights, an economy rife with opportunity for everyone, and our constitutional democracy as an expression of self-governance, we will be a leading voice for liberty within the Democratic Party, as we unite to defeat the authoritarianism that has consumed the Republican Party, and as we work to uphold America’s reputation as the land of the free.

Principles

Our foundational principles revolve around individual liberty, constitutional democracy, and social responsibility. You can read the Principles of the DFC on our website, here. Below is a summary of these core principles.

Personal Liberty

Equal freedom for everyone is essential for human progress. We support the inherent inalienable rights of all people. The right to self-determination is the most fundamental right that exists. This begins with bodily autonomy. The right to bodily autonomy means the freedom to make decisions about one’s body, the freedom to pursue consensual relationships, and the freedom to engage in any kind of behavior, lifestyle, or activity a person finds fulfilling provided they are not endangering others. Individuals should be able to live as their authentic selves, free from persecution. This requires a commitment to upholding civil liberties, and actively fighting coercion and oppression in all forms, whenever or wherever it begins to manifest.

Economic Liberty

We believe in economic opportunity for all. An individuals’ right to self-determination necessarily means that people have an essential right to keep the products of their own labor. Free movement of people, goods, services, and capital are the hallmarks of economic liberty. We are committed to strong protections for consumers, workers, and their community as individuals exchange within the market. We aim to tackle the root causes of economic problems by pursuing a system of property rights based on justice. Much of the economic inequality that we see today in modern society is a result of this injustice: the violent history surrounding the privatization of land and other natural resources, corporate welfare, and unaddressed distortions of the market caused by government favoritism to special interests.

Government and Rights

We support the Bill of Rights and the preservation of our constitutional democracy. The purpose of government is to protect our rights and ensure that we receive essential services. Government at any level should have minimal interference in individuals’ lives. We support creating incentives for improving the quality of public services. Whatever our government does, should be done well. Policies that infringe on people’s freedom can come from federal, state, or even local government, so we always stand in opposition to abuses of power to protect individual rights and civil liberties at all costs.

Social Responsibility

Humankind has a duty to itself – we owe a commitment to the human species and betterment of society. It is our responsibility to ensure that each person may pull from our common good, and remove any obstacles preventing people from reaching their full potential in life. Therefore, we support a functional social safety net that can provide for the most vulnerable of our population in their times of need. We support the kinds of government relief necessary for stabilizing people’s lives and enabling them to determine their own destiny in order to achieve the American Dream.
