Job Title: Interim Executive Director
Position Summary:
The Democratic Freedom Caucus (DFC) is seeking an experienced and driven Interim Executive Director to provide strategic and operational leadership during a transition period. The Interim Executive Director will work closely with the President and the Board to implement the organization’s mission, build effective relationships, and oversee daily operations. This role requires a visionary leader who can manage diverse teams, engage with members and stakeholders, and enhance the DFC’s impact within the Democratic Party. As the DFC’s fundraising efforts expand, this role has the potential to transition into a paid position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership
- Collaborate with the President and Officers to refine and implement the caucus’s strategic vision, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
- Lead initiatives that further the DFC’s mission and vision within the Democratic Party and partisan political endeavors.
- Operational Management
- Oversee daily operations across all departments, ensuring efficiency, cohesion, and alignment with organizational goals.
- Supervise department heads, providing guidance and resources needed to meet department objectives.
- Develop and monitor the organization’s operational budget, ensuring financial accountability and sustainability.
- Advocacy and Outreach
- Serve as a spokesperson for the organization, promoting DFC’s mission and values to members, stakeholders, and the public.
- Work with the Advocacy and Outreach Department to build and maintain relationships with community leaders, policymakers, and partner organizations.
- Oversee lobbying and advocacy efforts to support DFC’s policy initiatives.
- Fundraising and Development
- Collaborate with the Finance and Development Department to establish and implement fundraising strategies that support DFC’s goals.
- Cultivate relationships with donors and funding partners, ensuring sustained financial support.
- Oversee grant applications and other funding opportunities to enhance the organization’s resources.
- Member Engagement and Growth
- Work with the Membership and Engagement Department to grow the caucus’s membership and strengthen engagement efforts.
- Develop strategies to increase member participation and volunteer involvement, enhancing the caucus’s influence and outreach.
- Organizational Culture and Team Development
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and mission-driven workplace culture.
- Mentor department heads and staff, encouraging professional development and team cohesion.
- Ensure organizational policies and practices align with DFC’s values, especially concerning equality, justice, and integrity.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (preferred).
- Experience: Preferred minimum of 2+ years of leadership experience in a nonprofit, political, or advocacy organization, with a proven track record in operational management and strategic planning.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of the principles of individual liberty, social justice, and liberal democracy.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
- Proven fundraising and development experience.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and partnerships.
- Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Familiarity with the Democratic Party’s values, policies, and key political issues is a plus.
